FIFA suspended the AIFF after India’s top court dissolved the Football Federation of India (AIFF) in May and appointed a three-member board to govern the sport.
Although this policy is incompatible with the statute of FIFA, as each member federation of FIFA must be free from legal and political interference.
“The suspension will be lifted once the order to form a committee of trustees to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been lifted and the AIFF administration regains full control of the day-to-day affairs of the AIFF. ‘AIFF,” FIFA wrote in a statement. . The versionTuesday (16/8).
FIFA also continues to maintain communication with India’s Ministry of Youth and Sports and hopes for a positive outcome in resolving this matter.
The AIFF was deemed in need of reform and is currently run by a committee of trustees after former president Praful Patel remained in office beyond his term without new elections, which were declared invalid by a court.
Earlier this month, India’s top court ordered the immediate election of the president and declared the elected committee an interim body for a period of three months.
AIFF elections were due to be held in December 2020 but were postponed due to an impasse over constitutional amendments.
FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have sent a team led by AFC General Secretary Windsor John to meet with Indian football stakeholders and submit a roadmap for the AIFF to amend its statutes until at the end of July, then hold elections by September 15.
The result of this suspension means that the Under-17 Women’s World Cup, due to be held in India on October 11, will not go ahead as planned.
