Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Lebanese basketball team closed the final match of the FIBA Asian Cup 2022 Group D qualification with a 104-63 victory over India at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday.
Despite previously securing a ticket to the quarter-finals, Lebanon did not let up on the game. Thus, Jad El Hajj’s team won perfect points in three preliminary round matches.
In the game against India, coach Jad El Hajj lined up Elie Chamoun, Sergio El Darwich, Karim Raphael Ezzedine, Jonathan Arledge and Ali Mezher as starters.
While India comes with main composition Muin Bek Hafeez, Amritpal Singh, Prashant Singh Rawat, Pranav Prince and Arvind Kumar Muthu Krishnan.
From the start of the match, Lebanon immediately attacked. Point by point Jonathan Arledge and his friends won the first quarter with a score of 26-14.
Going into the second quarter, Lebanon were increasingly unstoppable as they scored 31 points, leaving India, who only scored 9 points. Until changing the score to 57-23.
In the third quarter, Lebanon faced resistance from India. Even in the fourth quarter, India appeared dominant. But that had no impact, Lebanon also secured the win with 104-63.
In that match, Yousef Khayat became Lebanon’s top scorer with 15 points, followed by Jonathan Arledge with 14 points, and Ali Mansour and Gerard Hadidian with 12 points each.
Lebanon qualified for the quarter-finals still waiting for the winner of the match playoffs between Indonesia and China which should start on Monday (18/7).
