jpnn.com, JAKARTA – An interesting sight was put on when the New Zealand basketball team performed the Haka dance shortly before the game against India in Group D of the FIBA Asia Cup 2022.
The dance, often practiced by the Maori tribe, seemed to anesthetize India and allowed Pero Cameron’s team to claim their first victory in the basketball competition between Asian countries.
In the match which took place at Istora Senayan on Wednesday (13/7/2022), New Zealand won a landslide victory with the score of 100-47.
Kruz Perrott-Hunt and his friends started the game at a slow pace so India had time to take control of the game and lead 8-4.
Fortunately, New Zealand, rich in experience at Asian and world level, was able to rise and take the lead in the rankings.
Sam Mennenga is New Zealand’s top points collector in this game with 21 points, followed by Taine Murray (13 points), Taylor (12 points) and four other players, such as Flynn Cameron, Takiula Fahrensohn, Kruz Perrott- Hunt and Sam Timmins. respectively -10 points each.
On the Indian side, Veselin Matic’s side looked difficult to penetrate the New Zealand defence.
Several attacks were built by Pranav Prince, until Amritpal Singh still stagnated.
Arvind Kumar Muthu Krishnan emerged as India’s top scorer with 13 points, followed by Prince with 10 points.
