Fajar/Rian arrested, Indonesian representative absent

Indonesia did not send a representative to the final India Open 2023. It is after Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto lost the rubber match against Aaron Chia / Soh Wooi Yik 21-11, 15-21 and 16-21.

Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto faced Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik in the semi-finals at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, New Delhi on Saturday (21/1/2023) WIB night. The Indonesian men’s doubles was brilliant in the first match.

They immediately opened the distance at the start, winning 6-1 after winning five straight points. The momentum continued to lead 11-3 at the break.

Fajar/Rian maintained their advantage and remained intact until the end of the first match. They won the match 21-11.

Fajar/Rian won the first two points in game two, then Chia/Soh fought back and took a 4-2 lead. Fajar/Rian collected four straight points to regain control of the match and lead 7-4.

Chia/Soh had time to respond and tied the score at 7-7, until they were stopped by the Indonesian pair. Fajar/Rian added two more points.

But Fajar / Rian was then retained, Chia / Soh chained eight consecutive points! The Malaysian doubles also led 15-9 and scored critical points in a more profitable position.

Fajar/Rian could only close the gap to four points at 14-18. Chia/Soh maintained their lead and won the second game 21-15.

Chia/Soh started the third game with good ball placements, leaving Fajar/Rian behind 2-5. Fajar / Rian reacted and were able to catch up to equalize the score.

Chia/Soh managed to put Fajar/Rian back in a position under pressure, to win 10-5, then 11-7 in the third interval of play. Errors made it difficult for Fajar/Rian to seize the momentum.

Fajar/Rian slowly started to reverse the pressure and attack more aggressively. The gap narrowed to 12-14, but Chia/Soh forced a drive to play and managed to steal two more points.

Chia/Soh maintained their momentum and widened the gap to 19-14. Fajar/Rian only had time to hold on for a moment and add two points, then had to give up their opponents’ 16-21 victory.

This means that Indonesia has no representation in the final of India Open 2023. Previously, two Indonesian men’s singles namely Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie were also eliminated in the semi-finals .
