Expected Indian XI: Rinku Singh is a new addition to the ODI and Sanju Samson will have to fight for a place in the first IND vs SA ODI.
It’s time to return to ODI once again. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli – the two top scorers in the 2023 World Cup – the Indian cricket team will rely on young players to showcase their talent in the IND vs SA ODI series. There is nothing to lose, this series is a must-see. However, for someone like Rinku Singh or Sai Sudharshan, it is the best platform to prove themselves. For someone like Sanju Samson, it’s once again a struggle to get into India’s Playing Eleven. The first ODI between India and South Africa will be played on Sunday and the Indian team will once again face selection problems.
India will hope to see their performance after the addition of Sai Sudharshan and Rinku Singh. The question is whether they will be included in the India Playing XI now or after the match.
There is room in the opening slot and no. 4/5. Now they will only support Rahul Dravid and KL Rahul.

IND vs SA 1st ODI: What to expect?
- As Ruturaj Gaikwad is ready to open, India needs to reach out to its partners.
- Sai Sudharshan, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson are the three options to choose from. India is likely to make Sai Sudharshan’s debut in the opening match against Gaikwad.
- Shreyas Iyer will return at number 3. He was in great form during the World Cup and will want to continue his good record.
- Without Virat Kohli, KL Rahul is likely to move to fourth, opening up a spot at fifth in the Indian playing XI.
- India have Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson and Rinku Singh at number 1. 5 and 6. Only one can do it.
- It is possible that Rinku and Sanju play at the expense of Tilak Varma in India playing XI. In this case, Rajat Patidar will have to wait.
- For position No. 7, Axar Patel was the first choice. After missing the World Cup, he hopes to return to the ODI ranks.
- India had a dilemma with the second slot. Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are the three options.
- While Kuldeep Yadav is in fine form, Yuzvendra Chahal has been an ever-present in and out of the team. Washington Sundar also rarely gets opportunities. However, with limited matches, India can test Chahal again.
- In terms of pace, India have only three clear options. As Deepak Chahar is still unable to play, the Indian cricket team will include Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan.
