Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – IDR 20,000 denomination has suddenly become a viral conversation among Indian politicians. This was declared for the first time by the head of the regional government of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, on October 26.
Kejriwal asked the Indian government to print money with images of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha as they appear on the IDR 20,000 denomination in Indonesia. He also highlighted Indonesia’s status as the largest Muslim country in the world.
“Indonesia is a Muslim country. There are 85% Muslims and only 2% Hindus, but there is an image of Lord Ganesha on the currency. I request the Prime Minister to install the image of the goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha on our coinage,” he wrote quoted Hindustan timeFriday (4/11/2022).
In fact, in fact, the current currency of IDR 20,000 does not include Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha in its image. The latest, quoted in denomination of IDR 20,000, is a photo of hero Sam Ratulangi.
However, in the past, Bank Indonesia (BI) printed Rp 20,000 banknotes with the image of the god Ganesha. The image appears alongside a photo of Ki Hadjar Dewantara. Currently the tickets have been picked up by BI.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal’s actions in initiating this speech would have political content. It is believed to be attracting Hindu groups ahead of elections in his state.
He is known to be the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). His party has also campaigned actively and massively in the state of Gujarat, which is incidentally controlled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
