Dubai:
India strongly believes that equality and climate justice must be at the heart of climate action and this can only be ensured if developed countries take leadership in the fight against climate change, the Minister of Climate Change said on Saturday. Environment, Bhupendra Yadav, during COP28.
Delivering the country’s national statement at a high-level forum at the annual climate conference, Yadav also highlighted India’s contribution, saying New Delhi has reduced its GDP emissions intensity by 33 percent between 2005 and 2019, reaching the target 11 years early.
Yadav also said that India is looking forward to the results of the Global Survey (GST) to provide meaningful and relevant inputs for deciding on enhanced climate action.
GST is a two-year review of the world’s collective efforts to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, particularly to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The minister described the ongoing climate negotiations as “COP28 action”, saying this was clear from day one of the Damages Fund’s launch.
