The President of the Republic will take part in the G20 Summit in India and will then travel to Bangladesh, the Élysée announced on Sunday.
Republican President Emmanuel Macron will travel to India for the G20 summit and then to Bangladesh on September 9 and 10, the Élysée announced late on Sunday. In New Delhi, he will discuss with colleagues the “risks of dividing the world”, particularly regarding Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the French presidency has said.
The Summit will also focus on responses to “major global challenges, peace and stability, the fight against poverty, climate and earth conservation, food security or digital regulation”.
“French Strategy in the Indo-Pacific”
It will also be an opportunity to follow up on the new global finance pact summit being held in Paris in June to combine efforts against poverty and protection of the planet.
In Bangladesh, the Head of State “will continue the concrete implementation of the French strategy in the Indo-Pacific” after welcoming Indian Prime Minister Narandra Modi and visiting Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Sri Lanka in July.
The “Indo-Pacific” is a vast region encompassing the Indian and Pacific Oceans, a theater of escalating international tensions between Beijing and Washington, and in which France, with its overseas territories, intends to develop its presence alongside its regional partners.
A visit to Daka will also be “an opportunity to deepen bilateral relations with a country experiencing rapid economic development (..) and seeking to diversify its partnerships”, said Elysée.
President Macron will also remember “France’s determination to stand by Bangladesh’s side in humanitarian matters” when the country is frequently hit by floods.
