DUBAI, 20 June 2022 (WAM) — The Vice President, Prime Minister and Governor of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has announced the inauguration of Expo City Dubai, in October 2022. The new city is an ideal smart city and futuristic destination for business and innovation, with a focus on sustainability, innovation, education and entertainment.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid said: “Brothers and sisters, after the historic success of Expo 2020 Dubai, which was visited by more than 24 million visitors and left an indelible mark on the 170 year history of the World Expo, today we are announcing the transformation from an exhibition center to an exhibition center. Expo City Dubai, a city that represents Dubai’s best ambitions.
“Expo City Dubai will be an eco-friendly city, respecting families, the economy and future generations. A city connected by a port and two airports, and also fond memories in the hearts and minds of millions. A city where the magic of the Expo will continue: Al The Wasl will continue to shine, the waterfalls will continue to be delightful, and the UAE, Alif and Terra pavilions will continue to amaze visitors of all ages.”

Expo City Dubai – a legacy plan for Expo 2020 Dubai and part of the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040 – builds on the massive momentum and success of the six-month World’s Fair to create a respectable city that is driven by the environment and technology of the future.
Opening on 1 October 2022, it will showcase some of Expo 2020 Dubai’s flagship pavilions, entertainment and technology, while continuing the magic, energy and excitement of the event.
Featuring a variety of diverse attractions, the complete city will include offices, recreational facilities, dining and entertainment venues, sports facilities and shopping centres. It will be accessible to Dubai Metro and will also house the world class Dubai Exhibition Center (DEC), a sought after venue that hosts a series of global summits, conferences and concerts during Expo 2020 Dubai, DEC will continue to host a series of conferences, events and activation.
Three of Expo 2020’s most visited attractions, the iconic Al Wasl Plaza, the Garden in the Sky observation tower and the surreal water feature, will remain. Meanwhile Alif, the mobility pavilion and Terra, the sustainability pavilion, will continue to be interactive educational experiences.
Later this year, the Opportunity Pavilion will become the Dubai Museum Expo 2020 – a new addition that highlights the history and impact of the World’s Fair and celebrates the success of the six-month event.
Other attractions that will remain include the Women’s Pavilion, which features women who make things happen around the world, and the Vision Pavilion, which honors the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid.
Visitors can also explore the eagle-inspired United Arab Emirates Pavilion and the Royal Saudi Arabia Pavilion. Details of several other country pavilions – including reworked versions of Luxembourg, Australia, Pakistan, India, Morocco and Egypt will be announced in the coming months.
Expo City Dubai will be free of single-use plastics and will retain 80% of the infrastructure and buildings already built, including 123 LEED certified buildings, embodying the highest levels of sustainable design, construction and operations. It will also be the first WELL-certified community in the region, demonstrating the positive impact of the built environment on health and well-being.
Offering many opportunities for businesses to achieve their sustainable goals, Expo City Dubai has attracted the interest of a large number of commercial tenants. It will soon become the new headquarters of DP World, Siemens, as well as start-ups and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
