Billionaire Elon Musk took a swipe at Microsoft and posted a laughing emoji on a meme as major disruption to the technology giant's cloud services led to widespread flight delays around the world and impacted numerous companies and banks.
In one post, Musk retweeted a cryptic tweet from 2021 comparing the tech giant to a fictional company called “Macrohard.” “Macrohard >> Microsoft,” the post said.
In another tweet, he posted a laughing emoji to accompany a meme. The post, which accompanied a meme, said that despite everything else crashing, X was still working.
“Everything else is down but this app still works?” the post joked.
Musk's reaction came as Microsoft reported problems with its Azure cloud and Microsoft 365 services. Apart from airlinesCompanies including banks, telecommunications companies and television and radio stations were affected after blue screens appeared on Windows workstations.
In response to the outage, Microsoft said they will “reroute affected traffic to an alternate system to mitigate the impact.” Although some services are still unavailable, Microsoft said in a statement that they are now seeing a positive trend in service availability.
Due to the cloud service disruption, all major airlines in India including Spicejet, IndiGo, Air India, Vistara and Akasa Air faced technical issues in booking, check-in and flight updates. As a temporary measure, airlines issued handwritten boarding passes for flights.
In the US, airlines such as Frontier Airlines have canceled 147 flights and delayed over 200. Sun Country and Allegiant also reported having to postpone 45 percent and 27 percent of their total flights, respectively.
