TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – This question has been asked for a long time, sport preferably morning or evening? There really is no right or wrong time when it comes to fitness. Whenever it’s okay, when it’s best for the body. Additionally, the timing of exercise is often dictated by a busy schedule. Many are forced to do brief exercises anywhere, between working in the office or doing household chores. The point is, don’t force yourself to work out at a certain time if it bothers you.
So, still confused to determine when is the best time? According to experts, Morning day is generally the best time to exercise. Sarah Campus, personal trainer, said thethe first workout in the morning is often the best choice because the body is still fresh and full of energy. “Plus, morning exercise adds energy to get you through the day, kick-starts your metabolism, and improves your performance,” Sarah said, as quoted by Women Fitness.
However, this is of course not a rule that applies to everyone. Yoga, meditation and wellness expert Aysha Bell says the best time to exercise really depends on what you want to achieve. For example, someone who wants losing weight or fat burning will benefit from morning exercise, especially on an empty stomach. “Morning exercise will also be mentally beneficial, as it increases alertness and boosts our endorphins. Plus, a productive start to the day will give you a positive mindset,” he says.
On the other hand, if you frequently experience sluggishness in the afternoon, an afternoon workout may be appropriate. “Afternoon workouts are a great way to boost energy levels and refocus the brain, even walking can have these benefits,” says Aysha.
He adds that cortisol and growth hormone levels increase in the morning, both related to metabolism. So, during morning exercise, the body tends to draw energy from fat stores, helping to burn fat and lose excess weight.
To build muscle, it’s usually best to exercise at night. Why? “Evening training is the most effective way to build muscle because the body tends to be weaker in the morning and builds strength throughout the day,” Aysha says. “So if the goal is to build lean muscle, the afternoon is the best time to train.”
Sarah added that the muscles gradually get stronger throughout the day and tend to peak in the afternoon.
So, exercising in the morning, about 30-60 minutes after waking up, is the optimal time to exercise. However, it’s important to listen to your body and keep personal fitness goals in mind when planning workouts.
For example, morning workouts are great for healthy weight loss, while evening workouts are better for building muscle because our muscles get stronger throughout the day. On the other hand, an afternoon workout might work better for you if your energy drops around 3 p.m. Try exercising at different times of the day and see what works best.
