The incident was brought to the attention of the DGCA through a voluntary report from Air India on July 10, 2024.
The DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 9.5 million, a fine of Rs 6 million for flight operations management and a fine of Rs 3 million for training of flight operations managers on Air India for operating flights with unqualified crew members.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 9.5 million on Air India for operating flights with unqualified crew members. In addition, the DGCA has also imposed fines of Rs 6 million and Rs 3 million on the operations managers and training managers of Air India.
The DGCA was made aware of the incident through a voluntary report by Air India on July 10, the regulator said. The DGCA added that it had conducted an investigation and found that there were deficiencies and multiple violations of regulations by several job holders and employees that could significantly affect safety.
“The concerned pilot has been cautioned to exercise caution to avoid such incidents in future. The Air India Limited was operating a flight under the command of a non-trainer Line Captain and a non-line cleared First Officer. The flight was considered by the regulator as a serious flight plan incident with significant safety implications,” the DGCA said in a statement.
