India’s junior men’s hockey team departed for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Bengaluru on Wednesday evening for the 10th Johor Sultan Cup.

After reaching Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, the team will travel to Johor Bahru, where the prestigious tournament will take place. Team India, which ended its campaign with a silver medal in the 2019 edition after a fierce match against England, will open its campaign in the tournament against hosts Malaysia on 22 October 2022.
The Indian Colts will also face Australia, Japan, South Africa and reigning champions Great Britain in this year’s edition which is expected to take place after three years.
Talking about the upcoming campaign, young striker Uttam Singh, who will lead the tournament squad, said: “The prestigious tournament is back after three years due to the pandemic. Our team is excited to compete with some of the strong teams that will enter the contest. This will be a good opportunity for us to test our team and grow as a unit.
The Indian captain further insisted that India will be looking to step up their silver medal winning campaign from the last time.

“We had some discussions at the training camp and we are sure that we have enough talent in our team to win the title. But we will not take any team lightly and play according to the situation of the match. We have to attack well in possession, but also be ready to defend in an instant,” Uttam Singh said in a Hockey India statement.
India’s men’s youth team will face Malaysia. in their first match at the 2022 Johor Sultan Cup in Johor Bahru, Malaysia on 22 October.
