In a scene that could have come straight out of a Marvel movie, albeit with a decidedly Indian twist, Delhi Police have charged the “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man” with several traffic violations, including riding on the hood of a car.

The masked 'hero' has been identified as 20-year-old Aditya from southwest Delhi's Najafgarh district. The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Gaurav Singh, hails from Mahavir Enclave.

The police were quick to respond to a complaint that surfaced on social media after a video showing the duo's antics went viral. In the clip, Aditya dressed as Spiderman can be seen on the hood of the car while Gaurav drives along the busy streets of Dwarka.

“Spiderman in slippers”

To add to the spectacle, a now-famous photo is circulating on the Internet showing Aditya and Gaurav standing awkwardly next to two traffic cops, holding a ticket for their numerous offenses.

“Only in Delhi… Spiderman in slippers…” social media users quipped, poking fun at the viral image shared by the officials.

“The owner and driver of the vehicle have been arrested for dangerous driving, failure to wear seat belt and driving without emission certificate. They face a fine of up to Rs 26,000 and/or imprisonment or both,” police said.

For the uninitiated, Spiderman is a fictional superhero from Marvel Comics created by legendary author Stan Lee. The popular character Peter Parker gains spider-like abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. Known for his personable nature and protective instincts towards his community, Spiderman is often referred to as “the friendly neighbourhood Spiderman”. This phrase has now morphed into a humorous reference, with social media users dubbing Aditya the “Najafgarh Spiderman” or “Aditya Parker”.

Not the first “Spidey incident”

Interestingly, this is not the first time that Spiderman has made headlines in Delhi. In April, a young couple was also booked by the police after they were caught flouting traffic rules while dressed as Spiderman and Spiderwoman.
