A visit to Gabon last May by India’s Vice President and Speaker of the Upper House of his country’s parliament, Muppavaru Venkaiah Naidu, has paid off. The Indian Economic and Trade Organization and the Gabon Embassy in the country launched the India-Gabon Business Council on 24 August in New Delhi. This initiative aims to accelerate trade relations between the two countries.

The recent visit of the Vice President of India, Venkaiah Naidu, to Gabon appears to provide a new impetus to bilateral relations between Libreville and New Delhi. If the cooperation between the two countries has lasted for decades, it will indeed be given a new lease of life on August 24. The memorandum of understanding for the establishment of the India-Gabon Business Council was indeed signed by the charge d’affaires of the Gabon embassy, Joséphine Patricia Ntyam-Ehya, and the president of the Indian Economic and Trade Organization, Dr. Asif Iqbal.
In front of the large business community in New Delhi, Dr. Asif Iqbal praised the Gabon Embassy team and promised a strong partnership between the two countries. “As Chair of the Organization, my aim is to build bilateral relations to new heights between India and the Republic of Gabon and our delegation will visit in October 2022. The focus is on deepening and diversifying relations by identifying areas of synergistic cooperation and collaboration, especially following the visit of the Deputy Our President Venkaiah Naidusaid dr. Asif Iqbal.
India does show great interest in Gabon, to the extent that the country of Ali Bongo provides great commercial and bilateral opportunities in the sectors of raw materials, pharmaceuticals, timber, agriculture, manufacturing and technology transfer.

Indian is 2e Gabon’s export destination and bilateral trade between the two countries reached 1.12 billion US dollars in 2021-2022. In the business sector, more than 50 Indian companies are located in the Nkok Special Economic Zone.
