Jakarta, Gatra.com – The Daddies the nickname of Indonesian badminton men’s doubles Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawam must be happy with the job finalist in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Finals 2022 tournament on Sunday (11/12).
Playing at the Nimibutr Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, the pair had to admit the superiority of China’s Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi in the draw, 17-21, 21-19, 12-21.
“Today they played really well. They read our ball, we lost in the front court and the ball was small,” Hendra said in his written statement, Sunday (11/12).
Playing for 59 minutes in the opener, this pair continued to lead. Winning 15-13, consecutive errors were made by The Daddies until Liu/Ou turned around 18-15. After that, the Chinese pair continued to earn points and closed out the opener with victory.
At the start of the second match, Ahsan / Hendra continued to collapse in points. Closing the interval behind 6-11, the pair kept trying to score points. Continuing to attack, the pair managed to bounce back 8-15 to tie 19-19. The world number 6 pair again won two straight points and forced the game to last until the deciding match.
Going into the third game, the points were tight for both pairs at the start of the round. After winning 9-7, the Chinese pair got back up and continued to add points at 9-13. Moreover, the 11th ranked pair in the world continued to press and dominate the match until they won.
“In the third game, after winning, we even conceded their serve and overtook him 11-9. After that, we lost focus a bit and made a lot of our own mistakes,” he said. he explains.
The strategy the pair plan to use initially focuses on forward balls and car fights. However, Ahsan/Hendra couldn’t maximize their application, so their impenetrable defense kept them from dropping points.
“Basically we gave our best, we maxed it out. In the second game we were way behind but we didn’t want to just give up. We kept trying the best we could. And when we approached their point, they seemed a bit shaky and eventually made up for it, Ahsan said.
This result allowed Ahsan/Hendra to end the year without a title. However, this year they both managed to qualify for three major event finals out of a total of five finals held in all badminton tournament series organized by the BWF. The three major events in question are Runner-Up All England 2022, Runner-Up World Championships 2022: Runner-Up World Tour Finals 2022. Meanwhile, two more Runner-Up titles have been won in the Super 500 series tournament , India Open 2022 and Malaysia Masters 2022 .
