Commonwealth Games 2022: Malaysia successfully reveal loss to India

Badminton News: Malaysia avenged their loss to India in 2018 by turning the tables on the defending champions in the mixed teams gold medal clash at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games at the National Exhibition Centre, in Birmingham, England.

Ng Tze Yong was pivotal to Malaysia’s victory beating the higher ranked and more experienced Kidambi Srikanth in the third game, 21-19 8-21 21-16, clearing the way for Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan.

The Malaysian women’s doubles pair had too much firepower for Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand Pullela, sealing gold with results of 21-18 and 21-17 for Malaysia to celebrate their fourth mixed team gold after 2006, 2010 and 2014.

Earlier, Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik provided a first breakthrough beating Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty 21-18 and 21-15.

Goh Jin Wei lost in a tight opener to Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, who made it 1-1 for India 22-20 and 21-17, before Ng Tze Yong sealed the victory for Malaysia.

Singapore takes bronze at 2022 Commonwealth Games

The bronze medal chase is also the reverse of the 2018 result, with Singapore beating England 3-0.

Hee Yong Kai Terry/Tan Wei Han Jessica lead two consecutive matches against Ben Lane/Lauren Smith.

World champion Loh Kean Yew was pushed all the way in one of the most exciting contests of the year by Toby Penty, before emerging victorious with a score of 23-25, 21-11 and 25-23 .

Freya Redfearn was no match for Yeo Jia Min as the Singaporean completed the victory, 21-11 and 21-14.

The individual competition will begin today.
