Senior AAP politician Manish Sisodia sent birthday wishes to jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying the party chief was waging the “toughest fight against dictatorship in the country”.
The Aam Aadmi Party will hold a series of events to celebrate the birthday of Kejriwal, who turned 56 on Friday.
“Congratulations to the Chief Minister of Delhi, my dear friend and political guru Arvind Kejriwal ji, who has fought the toughest fight against dictatorship in the country.
“We are proud to be soldiers of a patriotic and revolutionary leader who went to jail rather than kneel before a dictator. Today, the country's democracy is trapped in the form of Arvind Kejriwal,” Sisodia said in a Hindi post on X.
The former deputy prime minister will also begin his march in the evening.
In a post on “X”, the AAP said: “Arvind Kejriwal is an idea that becomes stronger the more it is suppressed.”
Delhi Minister Atishi called Kejriwal a “revolutionary of modern India” and expressed confidence that he would soon be released from prison.
“Today is the birthday of Arvind Kejriwal, the revolutionary of modern India who changed the state of Delhi with his model of governance.
“With his honest politics, he has given new hope to the people of Delhi. Arvind Ji, who shaped the future of millions of people in the fight against the dictatorship, is now in jail on a false charge. But the truth will prevail and the most beloved chief minister of Delhiites will emerge,” she said on X.
Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the national president of AAP, was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money laundering case related to the alleged excise scam. The Supreme Court has granted him interim bail, but he is still in jail as the CBI had arrested him in a related matter.
