Badminton News: Eight of their 11 games have now become three games. Jonatan Christie and Chou Tien Chen once again pushed themselves to the limit in the quarter-finals of the YONEX SUNRISE India Open 2023 in 72 minutes of combat, and were barely holding on when they left the court.
Chou battled a sore throat and the disappointment of missing two match points at 20-18 in the third set.
“We both pushed ourselves to the limit,” Chou said, after losing 21-15 13-21 22-20.
“I’m very tired. I keep trying to work hard and show my best attitude on the pitch.”
“It was a tough match. I’m a bit sick, just trying to push myself. Anything is possible. I love playing here, what a crowd. I love playing amazing badminton.
“We pushed each other, we tried to push the limits, it was crazy. Only one can win of course. I just try to show my best spirit on the pitch.
Jonatan Christie, who survived the final game despite falling behind, said the rivalry was likely very intense as they played a similar style.
“It’s always difficult when we play against each other,” said the Indonesian, who suffered a disappointment last August when Chou saved five match points in the quarter-finals of the World Championships.
“I just did my job. I was 18-20 behind, I just gave my best, I gave all my power. Right now I feel lucky,” he said.
“Every time I fight him it’s tough. I’m always ready for long matches against him. It’s my first time in Delhi and I want to thank the public for their support,” added Jonatan Christy.
