The US Embassy in New Delhi said it expects India to overtake China in obtaining US visas by 2023.
“After Mexico, India is expected to rank number 2 in issuing US visas,” an embassy official said, as published NNA News.
A senior official at the US Embassy in New Delhi announced the opening of 100,000 slots in mid-November for different types of visas.
“India is the number one priority for Washington right now. We have broad categories of students, tech workers, tourists and businesses,” the official added.
In October, the US Embassy issued 100,000 appointments for work visa categories H and L, as well as their family members.
“In response to the high demand for work-based visas, the US Mission in India recently released over 100,000 appointments for H&L workers and their families,” the US Embassy tweeted.
The additional visas come after Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar raised the issue of visa delays with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken last month.
According to the U.S. Embassy, in the first nine months of 2022, it processed more than 160,000 H and L visas and will continue to prioritize H and L workers for visa appointments when resources permit.
