China said on December 25 that it would provide consular protection and assistance to the arrested employees of Chinese smartphone maker Vivo in India, and expressed its firm support for Chinese companies in protecting their legitimate rights and interests.
The law enforcement agency last week arrested three vivo-India executives in connection with its money laundering probe against the Chinese smartphone maker and several others.
Asked about their reaction to the arrests, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said in a media briefing here on Monday that China was following the matter closely.
“The Chinese Embassy and Consulates in India will continue to provide consular protection and assistance to the affected individuals in accordance with the law,” she said.
“The Chinese government strongly supports Chinese companies in safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests. We hope that India fully recognizes the mutually beneficial nature of business cooperation between our two countries and creates a fair, equitable, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment,” she said.
