Sport fear for our Federal Chancellor!
Olaf Scholz (65, SPD) was injured in a sports accident on Saturday. This was first reported by “Frankfurter Rundschau”. A government spokesman has now confirmed the crash; it happened while jogging.
BILD spokesperson: “Unfortunately, Chancellor Olaf Scholz had to cancel his appointment in Hesse this Sunday following a minor sporting accident. He fell while jogging and suffered a bruise across his face. His appointment for next week will not be affected by this.”
BILD knows: Scholz is fine, but his bruises don’t look photogenic. And no top politician wants to appear that way at the start of the election campaign in Hesse. Among other things, Scholz wants to support the SPD’s top candidate Hessian and Federal Home Affairs Minister Nancy Faeser, 53, at the start of her election campaign in Bad Homburg.
Scholz had also planned a visit to Heringen (Hesse’s Hersfeld-Rotenburg district) to mark the 25th anniversary of his party partner Michael Roth (53) in the Bundestag.
Next week the chancellor will return to work as usual. On Monday he has no public appointments, but works in an office in the Chancellery. Last Tuesday the first public appearance at the IAA auto show in Munich. On Wednesday he will deliver his big budget speech in the Bundestag. On Friday he flew to the G20 summit in India.
Scholz and recreational sports
Jogging is one of the Rector’s favorite hobbies. In his profile on the SPD website, Scholz describes how he got into the sport: “In the mid-1980s I met my current wife, Britta Ernst, in Hamburg, and we have been married since 1998. It was my wife who took me to play sports. Back then when I was at school I hated sports, now I jog as much as I can. I try to find time to do sports two or three times a week – jogging, rowing or hiking. We also like cycling.”
