Badminton News: Senior mixed doubles specialist Chan Peng Soon is determined to win his first mixed doubles gold medal and win the mixed team title won by India at the last Commonwealth Games ago four years.
Parting ways with Goh Liu Ying and returning to the Malaysian national team, Chan Peng Soon realized that as a senior player, he needed to be able to maintain his fitness to not lose to younger players.
“Keep myself in shape and adapt to a modern style of play. The style of play and the strategy on the pitch have changed. So senior players like me need to keep up with these changes so as not to fall behind,” said Peng Soon.
Speaking of goals for next week’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the Rio Olympics silver medalist said he was optimistic.
“I want to win the gold medal for the India team. I also wanted to win the mixed doubles gold with Cheah Yee See because I never had any individual success before. My best achievement was to winning bronze in 2018 (with Goh Liu Ying).”
“Please don’t give up easily in the face of adversity. And also believe in yourself, keep improving and aiming higher.
Along with his caddie, Cheah Yee See, Peng Soon is also determined to represent his country at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
“I hope to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics. If I do, it will be my fourth and last appearance at the Olympics,” concluded Peng Soon.
