By defeating the Indian representative, Ginting meets Jojo in the quarter-finals

Jakarta: Anthony Sinisuka Ginting managed to overtake his compatriot Jonatan Christie, who managed to pass the round of 16 of the Indonesia Open 2023. But unfortunately, this positive trend actually led Ginting to meet Jonatan in the quarterfinals.

Competing in Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, June 16, Ginting successfully advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Indian representative, Priyanshu Rajawat, with a score of 20-22, 21-15, 21-15. However, this happened after Ginting fought hard for 1 hour and 3 minutes.

Speaking about the results of the match, Ginting admitted that he faced problems in the first game when he was ahead. We see that the 2023 Singapore Open champion's play relaxed at the end of the match so much so that Ginting lost with a score of 20-22. Fortunately, in the next two matches, Ginting was able to recover to secure the victory.

“I had problems in the first match when I was in front. It seemed that my opponent was able to change attack in the middle of the match and I entered into his game,” Ginting said.

“Luckily, in the second and third games, I picked up my playing pattern so that I could attack and concentrate on defense. I'm happy that it was a success,” he added.

Next, in the quarterfinals, Ginting will face fellow Indonesian Jonatan Christie. This happened after Jojo – Jonathan's nickname, defeated French representative Toma Junior Popov with a score of 19-21, 21-11, 21-11 in the round of 16.

Facing his colleagues in the round of 16, Ginting admitted that he himself would concentrate on achieving maximum results in front of the public.

“I don't want to focus too much on winning because it might backfire on me. For tomorrow's match, I want to try to recover and rest after that,” Ginting said.

“Tomorrow's match will definitely present an interesting battle as both players are determined to give their best,” concluded the 2020 Indonesia Masters champion.
