Badminton News: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, India’s top pair in men’s doubles, jumped two places to a career-best world ranking with 75,806 points in the latest BWF world rankings released on Tuesday (12/20).

Satwik and Chirag were in great shape in calendar year 2022 as they both won two World Tour titles namely at India Open Super 500 and French Open Super 750 and also won the first gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and bronze at the 2022 World Championships.

HS Prannoy also took advantage of the latest ranking to once again enter the world top 10, grabbing world number 9 after starting the year ranked number 26 in the world.

Prannoy also guided the Indian team to a historic Thomas Cup victory in Bangkok, but the individual title eluded them. His steady run, however, was enough to earn him a place in the BWF World Tour end-of-season finals and a nomination for the BWF Player of the Year award.

Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen continues to be India’s highest-placed player at seventh while former world No. 1 Kidambi Srikanth moves up a rung to 11th in the world.

Olympic doubles medalist PV Sindhu continues to hold onto sixth place in the women’s singles while women’s doubles combination Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, who won bronze in Birmingham, moved up two places to 18th in the world.

In mixed doubles, Ishaan Bhatnagar/Tanisha Crasto also gained three places to reach 21st in the world.
