Hiroshima. At the G7 Summit in Japan, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the stated aim of strengthening the bilateral partnership between the two countries. The two heads of state were invited as guests of the G7.

Modi and Lula highlighted the joint participation of the two countries in multilateral bodies. Not only the G20 was mentioned, in which India currently holds the presidency and which will be handed over to Brazil in the next term, but also the G4, the UN Security Council reform alliance with Germany and Japan, the alliance of the BRICS countries, which also includes Russia , China and South Africa, as well as a joint dialogue forum with South Africa.

India and Brazil are also pursuing intercontinental cooperation between Latin America and Asia. The Ukrainian war was also a topic of conversation between the two heads of state. According to Modi, India is interested in working with Brazil to find a peaceful solution.

Brazil and India have maintained diplomatic relations for 75 years. India is the South American country’s fifth largest trading partner. Total trading volume in 2021 reached a record high of $15.1 billion.
