BMW India records highest ever sales of 7,098 units in the first half of the 2024 financial year

BMW Group India recorded its highest-ever sales in the first half of the year, delivering 7,098 units (BMW and MINI) to customers, the German luxury carmaker said in a press release, up 21% compared to the same period in 2023.

“BMW Group India delivered 7,098 cars (BMW and MINI) and 3,614 motorcycles (BMW Motorrad). BMW sold 6,734 units and MINI 364 units,” the press release said.

The company attributed its strong sales performance to high demand for its Sports Activity Vehicles (SAVs), luxury and electric cars. SAVs accounted for 54% of total sales, recording a 24% year-on-year growth. The BMW X1 led the segment with a 19% share of total sales. The best-selling sedan was the BMW 3 Series, with a 17% share of sales.

The luxury car maker's luxury class models, including the BMW 7 Series, BMW i7, BMW X7 and BMW XM, recorded 17% year-on-year growth and contributed 18% to total sales, with the BMW X7 being the best-seller in the segment.

In the first half of 2024, BMW sold 397 electric cars under the BMW and Mini brands, with the BMW i7 being the best-selling electric vehicle (EV). In addition, BMW is the first luxury carmaker in India to cross the 2,000 electric vehicle sales mark. The BMW iX is the most popular luxury electric vehicle in the country with over 1,000 units sold, the press release said.

BMW Group India currently offers six electric vehicles: BMW i7, BMW iX, BMW i5, BMW i4, BMW iX1 and Mini SE. In July, the company plans to launch the Mini Countryman E and the BMW CE 04, its first electric two-wheeler in India.

BMW started operations in India in 2007, Mini joined in 2012 and BMW Motorrad launched in April 2017. BMW Group India has a manufacturing plant in Chennai, a spare parts warehouse in Pune, a training centre in Gurgaon and over 80 touchpoints across the country. BMW Group India has also introduced the RetailNext concept for its dealers, which aims to improve customer centricity, flexibility and sustainability, it said.

Vikram Pawah, President, BMW Group India, said, “In 2024, BMW Group India is making great strides in executing its strategy by achieving new heights in business performance and customer satisfaction. We have achieved our highest-ever half-year sales and have consistently maintained our leadership position in the luxury electric car segment. The strong affinity for our vehicles is driven by our competitive advantage in exclusive mobility coupled with distinctive driving pleasure and best-in-class innovations.”
