The Shipping Corporation of India announced on Monday that Binesh Kumar Tyagi has assumed the position of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD).
Tyagi has headed the company’s Liner and Passenger Services division as Director (L&PS) since January 7, 2021, the PSU said in a regulatory filing.
“Captain Binesh Kumar Tyagi has assumed the position of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Shipping Corporation of India Ltd (SCI) effective 09/03/2022,” it said.
Tyagi joined SCI in 1990 as a Trainee Nautical Officer (TNOC). He served aboard various ships at various ranks, including captain.
In 2004 he was accepted ashore where he held various management positions including technical, security reviews, charter work, training, ship staff, liners, passengers, inland waterways and offshore.
Tyagi is an IIM-A alumnus and a member of various professional associations.
Under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, SCI is the largest shipping company in India.
