TAVULLIA, SUNDAY — Marco Bezzecchi, who currently sits third in the MotoGP rider standings, has the potential to miss the Indonesian series race at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, October 13-15, 2023, as he is recovering from an injury to his right collarbone. The Mooney VR46 Racing Team driver underwent trouble-free surgery to reduce bone fractures caused by a fall during training.
Bezzecchi’s recovery status will be monitored over the next 48 hours to determine when he can return to racing. This condition could potentially force Bezzecchi to miss the race in Mandalika as the recovery process from his collarbone injury could take a long time. This season, Ducati rider Enea Bastianini suffered a broken collarbone during a sprint at Portimao. It took him two and a half months to recover and missed four sets.
Bezzecchi’s teammate Luca Marini is also recovering from a broken left collarbone caused by an accident during a sprint race in India. He has had surgery and it is not known when he will be able to return to racing. This condition opens the possibility for VR46 not to line up runners in Mandalika. But there is also a driver who was able to return to racing in just 48 hours after undergoing surgery for a broken collarbone, Jorge Lorenzo, at Assen in 2013.

Bezzecchi was injured in a crash during training at the Motor Ranch at Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Academy complex on Saturday. He then had surgery on Sunday which went well.
“The operation to reduce the fracture of Marco Bezzecchi’s right collarbone went smoothly this morning. “This Mooney VR46 Team driver had an accident during a routine training session at the Motor Ranch in Tavullia,” reads the press release from VR46 Racing, Sunday (10/8/2023) evening WIB .
“Marco is undergoing treatment at the Orthopedics and Trauma Unit at Unimore. The team coordinated by Professor Porcellini carried out the operation to reduce the injury. The operation went well. Marco will immediately begin the recovery process. “When he returns to the track, this will be assessed in the next 48 hours,” the statement said.

This injury could potentially cause Bezzecchi to miss several races this season, with only six series remaining. This condition could affect his position, which currently occupies third place in the ranking with 265 points. His closest competitor is KTM factory team rider Brad Binder, in fourth place with 201 points.
Alex Marquez is back
Currently, the rider who is recovering from injury and will return to racing in Mandalika is Alex Marquez. The Gresini Racing team driver suffered cracked ribs following an accident during the qualifying session in India.
“The green light from the medical team to travel to Indonesia. I will be careful and check how I feel during each training session. I can’t wait to come back,” Márquez wrote on his social media account.
Marc Marquez’s younger brother must still undergo an examination by the MotoGP medical team before receiving permission to ride a motorcycle. The test will be conducted in Mandalika next Thursday.
