Battalion, an indie comic book by Morade Rahni, unveiled (and will be available at Popcon Toulouse this weekend)

A project that we were able to find visually unique in 2020 is presented in more detail today – and therefore we are happy to put together a few lines for you. Imagined by Morad Rahni, story maker and lead artist for several years in animation (and has worked on the hit series Miraculous), Battalion has all the projects that might interest you if you usually browse our column.

Comic strip with many influences

Battalion interested in the fate of young people Sayf Ben Suljanthe son of the ancient guild leader Hashishin, a master organization in assassinations, whose agents are sent to various countries around the world – sometimes upsetting the international political balance by executing the leaders of certain countries. After committing another murder, Sayf back to town Khalassa, driven by the desire to change his life, finds no meaning in his activities. But it’s really hard to refuse one’s inheritance, especially with such a father figure Sayf.

The first edition, consisting of twenty fine pages entirely in black and white, attempted to showcase its young hero with graphics that playfully alternate registers and styles – perhaps also because of the author, Morad Rahnihave time to experiment during project work, with classic drawings, what looks like collages and other uses of digital frames, with influences from Japanese animation and comics (we think Otomo or Tezuka), but the action list is very comic book. The promotional visual (found below) is pretty vague on the project’s ambitions, with one of the characters from Battalion stir up the mix leak (Stephanie Brown) and Spider Man.

Artists will also be in attendance this weekend at PopCon Toulouse 2022 to serve #1 Battalion, all freshly printed, before finding out more about future publication methods. Temporary covers and some interior boards can be found below.
