The two sides are expected to sign an agreement on the temporary water sharing of the Kushiyara River during Hasina’s visit.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh is also expected to travel to Ajmer in Rajasthan to visit the revered Dargah of the Sufi saint, Moinuddin Chishti.
Announcing Hasina’s visit, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Arindam Bagchi said he would hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and meet President Draupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar.
Hasina last visited New Delhi in October 2019.
“Over the past few years, both sides have maintained high-level commitments, including at the highest level,” Bagchi said.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming visit will further strengthen the multifaceted relationship between the two countries, based on strong historical and cultural ties and mutual trust and understanding,” he added.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will visit Hasina.
Last month, India and Bangladesh finalized the text of an agreement on the temporary water sharing of the Kushiyara River.
The text of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was finalized during the 38th Ministerial Meeting of the India-Bangladesh River Commission (JRC) held in Delhi on Aug. 25.
The India-Bangladesh Joint River Commission was established in 1972 as a bilateral mechanism for dealing with issues of mutual concern on shared rivers.
The overall strategic relationship between India and Bangladesh has improved in recent years.
In March last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bangladesh to attend events to mark the centenary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth and 50 years of the country’s liberation war.
