Badminton News: Ayush Shetty and Unnati Hooda will spearhead India’s challenge as the Badminton Association of India (BAI) announces a sixteen-man Indian squad for the upcoming BWF World Junior Championships 2023, which is expected to have held in Spokane, USA, starting in September. 25.
The team was selected after a grueling trial that took place in New Delhi from July 26-29.
“Trials are very competitive and we have seen a lot of new faces since we made trials compulsory for such international events. We are very proud of the names that have been finalized and are confident that these young players will give their best and push past their weight to make the country proud,” said Sanjay Mishra, Secretary General of Badminton Association of India ( BAY).
2022 Odisha Open champion Unnati Hooda will lead the women’s singles team alongside BWF world ranked player Tara Shah (World No. 7) as well as India’s No. 7 Devika Sihag.
Two-time All India U19 Junior Rankings champion Ayush Shetty will lead the men’s team and secure first place in the selection event. He will be accompanied by Tushar Suveer and Lokesh Reddy.
The men’s doubles team includes 1st ranked Indian juniors Nicholas Nathan Raj-Tushar Suveer and Divyam Arora-Mayank Rana, as well as the women’s doubles category led by Radhika Sharma-Tanvi Sharma and Vennala K-Shriyanshi Valishetty.
Samarveer-Radhika Sharma and Sathwak Reddy K-Vaishnavi Khadkekar will represent the mixed doubles challenge. The BWF World Junior Championships will begin with the mixed team event on September 25 and the individual events will start on October 2.
