Volleyball News: The Philippines won a tie-break, 3-2 (25-22, 26-28, 11-25, 29-27, 18-16) against India in the Pool E AVC Challenge Cup 2023 on Wednesday ( 06/21) evening at the Gymnase Tri Dharma Petrokimia, Gresik.
Captain Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led her team to victory with 27 points, helping her team to a crucial point in the final set. Meanwhile, Shaya Adorador contributed 23 points, including three serves.
The Philippines made several key changes, including the introduction of Erika Raagas who scored five points and helped fuel her team’s hopes of playing in the tie-break.
“I’m happy with the way we played today, but there’s still a lot to learn,” said Raagas.
“I really appreciate the trust the coaches have given me, giving me the opportunity. And I want to continue to use that belief to really improve for the team.”
Head coach Jorge Souza De Brito is also happy with the results achieved by his team.
“The biggest goal I have in mind is to see these players connect and support each other on and off the pitch. And that’s what I saw in today’s game,” said he declared.
“The biggest preparation for the players for the next game is rest,” added De Brito.
The Philippines will face Australia on Friday (23/06) at 4:30 p.m. local time, while India will face Indonesia at 7:00 p.m. which will be the last match of Pool E of the AVC Challenge Cup 2023.
