At the end of the B20 summit, Jokowi entrusts the fate of MSMEs to the Indian presidency

Development of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) became one of the main agendas of the B20 summit meeting under the Indonesian presidency. President Joko Widodo hopes that this problem will not stop in Indonesia but will continue when the B20 is under India’s presidency.

“I hand it over to India so that the MSME issue remains the main focus and continues. I am optimistic that the B20 will be even stronger,” Jokowi said at the B20 summit in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/15). ).

One of the recommendations of the B20 under the Indonesian presidency is to accelerate the transformation digital, empowering MSMEs and vulnerable groups with a focus on capacities, entrepreneurship, job creation and empowerment of women MSMEs. Regarding the empowerment of MSMEs through digitalization, according to him, the government has focused on it in the past three years.

He explained that over the past three years, the government has continued to strive for the development of MSMEs with digitalization in the country. So far, he says, 19 million out of 64 million MSMEs have been digitized. Jokowi targets 30 million MSMEs to go digital by 2024.

The Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki, previously said that there were still 11 million MSME actors who had to deal with digitalization in 2022-2024. He considered this program as the first step to increase the capacity of MSMEs in the national economy.

“Our goal is that they are no longer informal businesses, we encourage them to have business entities,” Teten said during the “Proud of Indonesian MSMEs 2022” webinar organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises. Katadata companies, Tuesday (6/28).

Teten said ownership of business entities by MSME actors was relatively easier with the enactment of Law (UU) No. 11 of 2020 regarding job creation. By becoming a business entity, MSME actors can have a Business Identification Number (BIN).

Teten thinks it will be easier for MSME actors to access formal funding and apply for various certifications by having a NIB.

Besides digitizing MSMEs, Teten also promotes partnerships between MSMEs and big industries. Teten believes that this partnership can accelerate the growth of MSMEs in the country and increase the supply chain index in the country.

Chief Executive Officer of PT Telkom Indonesia (Persero) Tbk as well as Chair of the B20 Digitization Task Force, Ririek Adriansyah explained how digital technology has played an innovative and inclusive role and created collaborative growth. He said accelerating digitalization was key to the country’s technological resilience.

“Currently, the digital economy is equivalent to 15.5% of global GDP. It is estimated that 70% of the value created in the economy over the next decade will depend on the digital infrastructure that supports businesses based on digital,” Ririek said in his presentation. at the B20 forum, quoted in an official press release, Monday (14/11).
