Badminton News: The Indian men’s badminton team on Friday won a medal by beating Nepal 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the team event of the ongoing 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
The team last won a bronze medal in the continental team event in the 1986 Seoul edition, when Syed Modi and Prakash Padukone were still part of the team at that time.
2023 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Lakshya Sen, who was entered as first singles, played the first match of the quarter against Prince Dahal, defeating Prince Dahal with scores of 21-5 and 21-8, respectively.
In the second match, Kidambi Srikanth, after defeating Sunil Joshi 21-4 with ease in the first match, seemed to lose the plot a bit in the second match but quickly recovered to finish the match with a score of 21 -13.
In the third match, Mithun Manjunath scored the winning point in 25 minutes, beating Nepal representative Bishnu Katuwal quite easily in two consecutive games with a score of 21-2 and 21-7.
In the fourth match, the Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty pair and the fifth pair MR Arjun/Dhruv Kapila were not played as the Hindustan team had already achieved victory.
India will next play the team quarter-final of the 2023 Asian Games against South Korea, who surprisingly managed to eliminate top-seeded Indonesia with a final score of 3-1.
