Badminton News: Ashwini Ponnappa, the most experienced member of the Indian Commonwealth Games badminton team, says she is ready for a big challenge and determined to win a medal.

“Preparations have been good as we have had some very good quality sessions and we are both (he and his mixed doubles partner Sumeeth Reddy) looking forward to an unforgettable outing in Birmingham,” Ashwini told Sportsstar.

“For me this game was different because I was in the team as a mixed doubles player. We will definitely give our best,” he said.

“As India have never won a mixed doubles medal at the CWG, it would be great if we could do that. I enjoyed playing with Sumeeth even though we don’t play conventional mixed doubles, but we have our own unique way of playing well on the pitch,” said 32-year-old Ashwini.

“We believe we can be very effective with our own style and our own approach. Frankly, Sumeeth is fast, nimble and has a good half-smash. For me, one of his strengths is his attitude of never giving up, which is very important at all levels. We are disciplined and mentally strong. These things are really going to help us,” he added.

As for areas for improvement, Ashwini Ponnappa said she is working on her serve, return and solid third shot.

Ashwini Ponnappa feels she has had pretty consistent partnerships with one of the highest points being World Championship women’s doubles bronze pair G. Jwala.

“Last year I was experimenting with mixed doubles with different partners. However, my strong point is that I can defend while defending. I am improving at net and of course my spikes help me in mixed doubles as well” , explained Ashwini.

“The combination of Singapore, Malaysia and the UK can be a serious challenge,” he added.

Meanwhile, Sumeeth Reddy, who has recently struggled with serious health issues, feels ready for whatever comes next at the Commonwealth Games.

“Yes, there is a bad feeling to win at this level. I believe we are going in the right direction,” he said.

“Well, Ashwini has a lot of strengths and the good part is we can play different styles while focusing on how to implement the game plan and try to improve every day,” Sumeeth added. , 30 years.

“I always challenge myself to give my best. I am always open to listening to what my partners have to say for better results. I believe that attitude and courage are the keys to great victories.”
