Badminton News: Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Indonesia’s world number 2 badminton man, has decided to miss the prestigious 2023 BWF World Championships next week in Copenhagen, Denmark as he is still mourning the passing of his mother some time ago.
So said PP PBSI men’s singles coach Irwansyah shortly before the departure of the Indonesian badminton team to Copenhagen on Thursday (17/8) evening WIB.
There are two groups of flights for the departure of the Indonesia badminton team where the first flight will fly Thursday evening, while the rest will depart Friday (18/8) early morning WIB
“Ginting was unable to attend the World Championships as he was still grieving the death of his beloved mother,” Irwansyah said, via a press release from PP PBSI Public Relations.
Anthony mourns the passing of his mother, Lucia Sriati, in Bandung, West Java (West Java), Wednesday (9/8). As the funeral was held on Saturday (12/8) at Graha Sentosa Memorial Park, West Karawang, West Java.
In Anthony Ginting’s absence, Merah Putih will rely on world number 5 Jonatan Christie and world number 21 Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo at this year’s World Championships.
Jonatan Christie will start the tournament against a Malaysian player, Lee Zii Jia, while Chico will meet an Australian representative, Nathan Tang.
If qualified, Jonatan Christie will face the winner between Canadian players Brian Yang and Kai Schaefer of Germany, while Chico Wardoyo will meet the winner between ninth-seeded Indian players HS Prannoy and Kalle Koljonen of Finland in the second round .
