Meanwhile, Apple will remain aggressive in 2023 by launching virtual reality headsets, which will be the first big new category since 2015. According to its latest annual report, Apple has about 154,000 full-time equivalent employees.

Besides Apple, Google’s parent company, Alphabet, plans to slow the pace of hiring until next year. This policy was seen as one of the company’s efforts to deal with the potential economic downturn in the United States.

Chief Executive Sundar Pichai told employees in an email sent on Tuesday (7/12/2022) that the company will focus on recruiting engineers, technicians and other key positions during 2022. and 2023.

“Going forward, we need to be more entrepreneurial, working with greater urgency and sharper focus. In some cases, that means consolidating overlapping investments and streamlining the process,” Pichai said. ).

Historically, Google has remained relatively immune to economic downturns in the technology sector. However, the internet giant stopped hiring after the financial crisis more than a decade ago.

Previously, Microsoft also announced a termination policy (PHK) for approximately 1,800 employees. This policy was carried out in the midst of a period of economic uncertainty which subsequently affected a number of start-up companies.

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft announced the adjustment of roles and business groups after the end of the fiscal year (as of June 30, 2022). This layoff policy would affect 1% of the total number of Microsoft employees, which currently stands at 180,000 people. However, management did not specify to which region or division this policy applied.

“Today, we are eliminating some positions across the company, in small numbers. Like all companies, we regularly assess business priorities and need to make structural adjustments,” Microsoft said.

Bloomberg also said Meta Platforms, which includes Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, will cut engineering hiring targets by at least 30% this year and warned all staff to prepare for a severe economic downturn.
