PUNE: Akasa Air on Monday unveiled the first look of its airline crew uniform, which features a youthful and contemporary design and colors that reflect the warm, friendly and cheerful personality of Akasa Air. With ergonomics, aesthetics and comfort in mind, Akasa Air is the first Indian airline to introduce tailored pants, jackets and comfortable sneakers for its flight crew.
The uniform is inspired by the company’s core beliefs of employee centricity and sustainability. Made specifically for Akasa Air, the pants and jacket fabric is made from recycled polyester fabric made from PET bottle plastic made from marine litter. The uniform fit focuses on providing the best possible stretch to ensure employee comfort during their busy flight schedules.
Designed by Rajesh Pratap Singhthe jacket is inspired by the Indian bandh gala and trend-setting in a modern take on the garment.
Given crew members’ mobile lifestyles and the long hours they spend standing, Vanilla Moon designed sneakers that are lightweight and include extra cushioning from heel to toe for better support. In line with Akasa Air’s sustainability approach, the sneaker’s sole is carved from recycled rubber and manufactured without the use of plastic.
Belson Coutinho, Akasa Air Co-Founder and Chief Marketing & Experience Officer, described the inspiration behind the uniform: “Employee centricity and sustainability will be at the core of everything we do at Akasa Air. We have designed a uniform in which our team feels both proud and comfortable as they focus their energies on providing a warm, friendly and efficient flight experience for all of our passengers.”
“A perfect fusion of style and sustainability, these uniforms reflect Akasa Air’s core values. From concept to end result, it has been an exciting journey for me to work on these designs and showcase one of the most unique, sustainable and functional uniforms of our time,” said Rajesh Pratap Singh, who collaborated with Akasa Air to design the uniform .
Akasa Air received delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in India on June 21. The airline is now preparing for its commercial launch by the end of July. It will conduct its test flights in the first week of July in order to obtain the Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) required for commercial launch.
