The three countries that had emerged as potential opponents of the Indonesian national team on FIFA Matchday were Curacao, India and Hong Kong.
PSSI General President Mochamad Iriawan said Curacao was definitely an opponent for the Garuda Squad. While the assessment against India and Hong Kong is still ongoing.
“For FIFA Matchday, there are three countries that have become Indonesia’s opponents, namely Curacao, the ranking is good, there are also Hong Kong and India. Later, it will be reduced to only two countries Now communication and negotiation between the two countries, whether India or Hong Kong,” Iriawan explained in a meeting with reporters via Zoom.
Earlier, Iriawan had expressed certainty against Curacao despite the obstacles the country in the Confederation of Central and North America zone faces when it comes to vaccinations.
According to the current FIFA rankings, Curaçao occupies the 84th position in the world. While India is ranked 105th and Hong Kong is ranked 145th.
The FIFA Matchday match is scheduled for September 19-27, 2022. This match is meant to prepare the Indonesian national team for the 2023 Asian Cup.
After securing qualification for the 2023 Asian Cup, coach Shin Tae Yong said a country with a certain rank would be the opponent of the Indonesian national team.
At first, Shin wanted the Red and White team to try out teams with a rank of 50 to 100. Then the target against the Indonesian national team changed to a country with a rank of 120 and below.
