Badminton News: The Norwegian international match taking place November 9-12 will mark the final competitive appearance of Danish men’s singles badminton player Hans Kristian Vittinghus.
Vittinghus, 37, caused a stir when he posted a heartfelt retirement message on social media on Wednesday.
Vittinghus, who reached a career high of 8th in January 2015, has suffered a significant drop in the world rankings and is currently ranked 56th.
He was knocked out in the first rounds of the seven tournaments he has participated in so far this year.
Her best form was reaching the second round of the Indian Open in January and the German Open in March, where she lost to Loh Kean Yew of Singapore and Li Shifeng of China respectively.
Vittinghus feels it is the right time and decision to retire now and has started exploring new roles.
He and his compatriot Anders Antonsen had started a YouTube podcast called ‘The Badminton Experience’ in January last year, where they discussed various badminton topics, invited other badminton players as guests and organized question and answer sessions.
Vitinghus, who won the Norwegian international title in 2006, 2009 and 2010, has decided to officially end his competitive career in Norwegian hunting pleasures.
“What an emotional day for me to have my last training at the national center after being part of the program for 18 years! Vittinghus posted on social media.
“A huge thank you to everyone who participated, it was amazing and I’m sorry I can’t say enough words to thank you all but it’s impossible to speak without crying.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the time has come and I have started the transition into my new role and I really appreciate that!
“My international career is not completely over yet, as I intend to play the Norway International in November as my last international tournament.”
“For now, a huge thank you for the wonderful farewell today (Thursday) and for the great teamwork of 18 years with my current and past teammates, coaches and support staff.”
Many of them, I would call them good friends too! Without all of you, I would never be in this position and I will be eternally grateful to you,” said the 2016 Thomas Cup winner.
