A man’s body was found in a train toilet after traveling some 900 kilometers, police say Indian Thursday, November 3rd. Authorities said the man likely died shortly after boarding a train in eastern Bihar state and locking himself in the toilet.
Railroad police officer Ram Sahay told AFP that passengers had complained on Sunday about “really stinkswhich came from the restroom when the officers decided to force open the door.

At that time, the Saharsa-Amritsar Jan Sewa Express had covered a distance of more than 900 kilometers in 24 hours. “The toilet door was closed from the inside and when we opened it we found the bodysaid Mr Sahay, who is stationed in Shahjahanpur, in the (northern) state of Uttar Pradesh.

Sanjay Rai, a train service doctor quoted by the daily Indian Timeindicates that the body was already decomposed when it was found and it is thought that it was “died after falling into a comawhen he was in the bathroom.
Authorities circulated photos of the unidentified person who died at various stations in Bihar state, where the train started its journey. Every year, tens of thousands of bodies go unclaimed or unidentified in India. They are usually cremated after three days, without any identification by relatives to the police.
