Banten – Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono who is also the General Chairman of Indonesian Rowing Sports Association (PB PODSI) hailed the return of the Indonesian rowing team of dragon boats which participated in the 14th Asian Dragoan Boat Championship in Rayong Pattaya in Thailand.

Minister Basuki advised the athletes to keep working hard to maintain success and cohesion in the following matches to showcase the best for the nation and the state.

“All the gains must be maintained for the 2023 Asian Games, there is only one way, and that is to be compact. Maintaining the gains is not easy, but it will be possible if we remain compact,” said said Minister Basuki while welcoming the Indonesian rowing team at Soekarno Hatta Airport on Sunday evening (27/11/2022).

Minister Basuki expressed his gratitude and pride for the 11 gold medals won by the rowing athletes in the Asian Dragoan Championship. “It’s the result of the hard work of the athletes, coaches and administrators of PODSI,” he said.

The Indonesian rowing team participated in 12 of the 18 competitions with 37 staff members consisting of 15 male athletes, 15 female athletes, 4 coaches, 1 masseur, 1 manager and 1 official.

Of the 12 contested numbers, the Indonesian rowing team won 11 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. The gold medal was obtained from number DB 12 Crew Mix at 200 meters, 500 meters, 1000 meters DB 12 Crew Women, 200 meters, 500 meters, 1000 meters DB 12 Crew Open 500 meters, 1000 meters DB 22 Crew Mix distance of 200 meters, distance of 500 meters, distance of 1000 meters. While the bronze medal was obtained from the DB number 12 Crew Open at a distance of 200 meters.

The Asian Dragon Boat Championship had 12 participating countries, namely China, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong China, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Australia, Cambodia, India, Singapore, Nepal and Indonesia.

The success of the Indonesian team is the result of the preparations that have been made since early January 2022 where the team was ready to participate in the Asian Games 2022 event in August which for some reason was postponed to September 2023.

Athlete personnel were selected based on Papua 2021 PON results and national coach monitoring results through a talent scouting program as well as the results of the review and selection of the Kemenpora team to form the national team.

Also present at the welcoming ceremony were Central Vice President of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) Tursandi Alwi and Director General of Water Resources of the PUPR Ministry Jarot Widyoko. (Jay)
