TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori called on the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky hurt his people. He also criticized Japanese media for being biased in news coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

“I don’t really understand why only (Russian President Vladimir) Putin is criticized while Zelensky is not responsible at all. It is a problem. Zelensky made many Ukrainians suffer,” Mori said in his speech at a political event in Tokyo on Friday, November 18, 2022, as quoted by Kyodo News.

According to Mori, the media in Japan is biased to one side because influenced by reports from the West. He also felt the media in Japan rely only on European and American reports.

Mori also criticized current Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida over the dispute. He accused Kishida of siding with the United States.

Mori also warned that Russia could use nuclear weapons if the situation worsens. President Cheese fries reiterated last month that Moscow would adhere to its nuclear doctrine: Russia will only use its nuclear weapons in the event of an attack with weapons of mass destruction or if Russia’s very existence is at stake.

After serving in various positions in the Japanese cabinet in the 1980s and 1990s, Mori eventually served as prime minister from 2000 to 2001. He went on to chair the organizing committee for the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, but resigned months before the start of the events due to a scandal over sexist remarks he made during a meeting.

Japan, along with many Western countries, imposed sanctions on Russia after it launched its military operation in Ukraine in late February. Moscow responded by including more than 380 lawmakers Japan blacklisted and banned Kishida and other high-ranking cabinet members from entering the country.
