Indonesian men’s double Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan called up from India in French Open 2022 held at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin on Tuesday (25/10). The incident also went viral on social media.
Another misrepresentation incident was experienced by Indonesian athletes. This time it happened to Ahsan/Hendra who fought Taiwanese pair Lee Jhe Huei/Yang Po Hsuan in the round of 16.
The moment of the error happened before the match. When the two pairs are about to enter the field, the announcer mentions as usual the names of the athletes who will compete as well as their country of origin.
When mentioning Ahsan/Hendra’s country of origin, the announcer said that the male doubles dubbed The Daddies are from India, not Indonesia.
The video mistakenly mentioning Ahsan/Hendra from India later went viral on social media Twitter. A number of accounts uploaded the erroneously mentioned video.
It’s easy to mistakenly find snippets of the alleged video on Twitter by searching for “Ahsan Hendra India”.
The issue of Ahsan/Hendra’s call from India immediately got busy on social media, prompting backlash from netizens.
This is the second incident in a row to happen to an Indonesian athlete. Previous to Denmark Open 2022, the announcer also mistakenly mentioned the country of origin of Kevin Sanjaya/Marcus Gideon and Fajar Alfian/M Rian Ardianto who were from Malaysia.
The mistake of mentioning Kevin/Marcus and Fajar/Rian from Malaysia happened during the Danish Open 2022 trophy presentation.
In the 16th round of Roland-Garros, Ahsan / Hendra had to lose 16-21, 21-23 against Lee Jhe Huei / Yang Po Hsuan, Tuesday (25/10).
