Russia, which exported very little oil to India until last March, became the country’s biggest oil supplier in October, overtaking Saudi Arabia and Iraq, which are India’s traditional exporters, India’s private media outlet Zee News reported on Sunday.
Citing data from energy commodity tracking firm Vortexa, Zee News said oil from Russia accounts for 22% of India’s total crude imports, compared with 20.5% for Iraq and 16% for Saudi Arabia.
“Russia supplied 935,556 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil to India in October, although it only accounted for 0.2% of India’s total oil imports in the year to March 31, 2022,” the article continued.
