Carolina Marin beat Akane Yamaguchi to reach women’s singles final

Paris, October 29: 2016 Rio Olympics gold medalist Carolina Marin beat two-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi 21-14, 21-18 to reach the women’s singles final of the 2022 French Badminton Championships here Saturday. After recovering from the ACL injury that prevented him from defending his Olympic title in Tokyo, the Spaniard won the European Championship title in April. On Sunday, he will be eyeing the 35th title of his career.

For the first time in two years, the 29-year-old will enter the World Tour Super 750 final. The last time he entered the BWF World Tour Super 750 final was in Odense, Denmark in October 2020.

In his best win since returning to the ring, Marin dominated throughout the match, varying the direction and pace of play towards increasingly exhausted opponents.

Yamaguchi has stopped Marin’s rise to the podium at recent tournaments, including August’s World Cup in Tokyo, but this time she beat the ringside player.
