Beware of widening war, US ‘warns’ India over Russia

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The United States (US) government is now turning the spotlight on India. Uncle Sam expressed concern over Bollywood’s plans to conduct military exercises with Russia.

This was conveyed directly by White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre. In his statement, Jean-Pierre said Washington would be concerned and would continue to monitor countries conducting military exercises with Russia as Moscow continues to carry out attacks on Ukraine.

“The United States is concerned about any country participating in military exercises with Russia while at war with Ukraine,” he said.

The Vostok exercise in 2018 was conducted on a large scale. It involved nearly 300,000 troops.

Meanwhile, in a Defense Ministry statement, Indian troops reportedly landed in Russia yesterday. They will be in Russia for seven days.

“(The Indian Army) has arrived at the exercise site and over the next seven days they will be carrying out joint maneuvers to include joint field exercises, combat talks and weapons drills,” he said. said the state agency.

India is notorious for not joining Western countries in applying sanctions against Russia’s attacks because of the attack on Ukraine. The state of Hindustan even bought Russian oil when several countries around the world imposed embargoes on the energy product.

Russia is known to be one of the countries supplying defense equipment to Delhi. Researchers at the Stimson Center have calculated that 85% of major Indian weapons are Russian-made.

Even so, India also has quite good relations with the United States. Evidenced by Delhi’s participation in the QUAD alliance, which includes the United States, Japan and Australia.
