Mauritius announces several digital collaboration projects with India

Mauritius began its digital transformation almost four years ago. To make this digitalization a success, the government has been trying to find key partners who are able to support it financially and technically.

Mauritius and India have agreed to collaborate on several digital projects. The two countries, represented respectively by the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation and the National Informatics Center Services Incorporated (NICSI) signed a memorandum of cooperation for this purpose on Friday, September 23.

Talking about the benefits of this partnership, Deepak Balgobin (pictured), the Minister of ICT of Mauritius, explained that it will enable the government to increase the dematerialization of some public services in various strategic areas such as health, education, trade, etc. In addition to the development of communication channels for the exchange of information, “there will be collaboration in the practice of using IT in the government of Mauritius”said the Minister of ICT

India’s choice as a key partner in Mauritius’ digital transformation was not arbitrary. Several years ago, India signed technology cooperation agreements with four African countries, including Mauritius. The country is committed to providing substantial support for the development of science and technology in these countries.

It should be noted that the cooperation between India and Mauritius has paid off. In 2003, India played a leading role in the construction of the “Ebony Cybertower”, which is also called Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Tower since 2019 in honor of the former Prime Minister of India. The 15-kilometer long tower was designed and built by an Indian company. For the same project, Mauritius has received a credit of 100 million US dollars from India.
