“The relationship between India and Singapore is like a tapestry that has many threads and we have strong ties between our countries,” Iswaran said at the opening of an Indian art exhibition on Wednesday night.
The minister also praised the many generations of people-to-people ties between the two countries and pointed to a number of events being held here to celebrate 75 years of Indian independence.
He commended the strong relationship between the two countries, including the strong and growing presence of companies from each other’s countries.
There are around 9,000 Indian-origin businesses in Singapore and around a million Indians in the city-state’s population of over 5 million locals and expats.
A wide range of art was on display throughout the exhibition, including some that have captured the country’s changing social landscape over the past 75 years.
Indian High Commissioner for Singapore P. Kumaran was also present and said the art exhibition is part of the celebrations of India’s 75 years of independence and is represented in a series of events entitled “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”.
“This exquisite exhibition offers a glimpse into the range and evolution of Indian art forms over the years, from ancient, medieval, modern, contemporary and digital (NFTs),” he said.
The envoy explained the history of painting in India.
